WalletWebUSB has arrived...

WalletWebUSB - Front viewYou may have noticed it's been quiet at eseehow.com for the past few months but don't worry – things have been happening behind the scenes. In our quest to make life easier we decided to make a product, one that will allow you to carry the information and programs you need wherever you go.

“Isn't that what USB Drives do?” you might ask. Indeed, but not as easily as this – you see, our new product is a USB Drive but not one that dangles and jangles on the end of your keyring or gets lost in the bottom of your pocket. Far better - this drive fits in your wallet, credit card style!

Sure, there may be other credit card style USB Drives out there but this one isn't just any old drive. It's pre-loaded with free portable applications, including an Apache web server, html and graphics editors, full office suite and more. No installation required – the programs run straight from the drive within Windows.

What to look for in a Netbook

The netbook is the middle one! See Long Description URL for image license. On Monday night someone christened our Facebook Discussion page with the first request for eseehow advice. I know I said that eseehow.com isn't usually the place for asking questions, but our Facebook page certainly is, and when the answer may be useful to a wider audience it's got a good chance of featuring here.

As luck would have it, our first request was just such a question: how to go about choosing the best netbook? Netbooks are all the rage at the moment (y'know those laptops that are actually small enough to be portable!), and for good reason. However, most of them are very similar and there are hundreds out there, so it's the ideal opportunity to use the eseehow philosophy and highlight the one netbook that stands out from the crowd.

Once you know what to look for this really is a no-brainer...

Legal Templates and Site Linking: Delegate but understand...

Legal stuff - corner snapshotIn the eseehow philosophy Principle #3 is Delegate, and Principle #1 (Do It Once) suggests the use of templates; when applied together, they give us the wonderful time-saving concept of using other people's templates.

However, an email I received last night highlights an important point when following this strategy: understand the work that is done on your behalf - it's your name on the label.

The email in question was the kind that every webmaster loves to receive, you know, the ones that say how useful the site is and how they'd like to recommend it to their social network. If that had been the only comment, this blog post would have been very different and I would have missed a lesson, one important enough to share.

The Official eseehow.com Site Launch

eseehow.com launchesAfter two months of editing, tweaking and testing, the new eseehow.com site is officially here!

It's only two weeks since I left my day job to become a full time internet guru and already my former colleagues are texting / emailing with cries of "Where is it?", "Surely it's ready now?!" and "Just turn it off and on again.".

eseehow-to: Take an exact backup copy of your hard disk

Your computer is set up exactly the way you want it and all is going well - but who knows what will happen next week, tomorrow even? Will it be a virus infestation and no safe way to do a system restore? New software installed and your machine just blue screens? Hard disk dies?! Ouch.

By following this guide now, you'll be safe in the knowledge that you have an emergency disk image ready for when the worst happens - just make sure you keep this exact backup copy in a safe place and somewhere you'll be able to find it later.
